The Tramore Hill Challenge - Test your Mettle, man

An exciting new and one of its kind cycle event in Ireland takes on the streets of Tramore on Sunday 29th May. The Tramore Hill Challenge will test rider's skills when they battle with the legendary steep hill of Tramore's Upper Strand Street and Main Street.

It is not just the elite cyclist being targeted, this is an event for all the family: distances will vary per age group and all the kids under 12 will receive a certificate of completion. Adults will race up the whole length of Upper Strand Street & Main street to win the coveted King and Queen of the Hill. There will be a fancy dress race were the most outrageous costume will win a prize on completion of the course. For the serious racer out there they will be a predict your time contest (no bike computers or stop watches allowed).

As well as the serious riders who will participate, it will be a family and fun focused event which the organisers hope to run as an annual event. All profits from this year's event will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the South Eastern Cancer Society's Solas Centre. This new building will enable the charity to provide much-needed support to around 1000 cancer patients a year.

The vast majority of the people who work there are volunteers and the organisation receives absolutely no financial support from the government or the HSE and so is entirely dependent upon donations and fundraising.

There will be a rolling start to get you going and all riders from 12 years up will have a chip timer connected to them. You can download a registration form from the website www.tramorehillchallenge.com and follow the build up on their facebook page, www.facebook.com/tramorehillchallenge

Kids entry fee is €3 (aged 5-12), young adults €5 (aged 15-18), adults €10. Registration on the day will take place from 9am, upstairs at the Seahorse Tavern.

The under 5s race will commence at 11am and the adult races will commence at 1.30pm. All participants must wear a helmet to enter the race.
