| A World Record Golf Attempt |
|---|
On Monday June 22nd at Faithlegg Golf Club, we will attempt to break a Guinness World Records Record for the most number of people playing golf walking on a single course in 24 hours. The current record is 623 golfers which was set in China in 2006! Play will commence at 4am on June 22nd and hopefully finish just before 4am on the 23rd. Faithlegg Golf Club has been an Affiliate Venue of The First Tee of Ireland since early 2006. Countless boys and girls from the nearby Faithlegg National School continue to enjoy instruction in the program with many taking the next step and availing of the excellent junior membership at the club. Around the country, hundreds of boys and girls participate such are the benefits of the program. The First Tee of Ireland, a charitable organisation, is part of the World Golf Foundation. Its mission is "to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life enhancing values through the game of golf". Through a Life Skills curriculum, children acquire skills that help them flourish both on and off the golf course such as goal-setting, decision making and interpersonal skills all of which are taught in a seamless manner through the game of golf. Alison Redmond, General Manager of Faithlegg House Hotel and Ryan Hunt, Golf Manager at Faithlegg Golf Club are delighted to be associated with the record attempt. "This is a novel event designed to create awareness and generate revenue for The First Tee of Ireland. We are both proud to assist and delighted that Faithlegg Golf Club has been chosen as the venue for what promises to be a wonderful 24hrs of golf, fun and great excitement". There are many challenges over the 24hrs not least of which will be playing through the night. Floodlights and hundreds of glow sticks will be used to illuminate and define the golf course. For the golfers, this will be a real test of pace of play and their short game as each group will be required to stay hot on the heels of the group ahead using a variety of short to mid-irons and the occasional driver or 3-wood. Each player must hole out and complete their round in 3hrs 40mins to remain on world record pace. There will be many different facets to the event including a draw to be made from all the entries to identify the players who will participate in the final group and also to identify the person from that group who will sink the putt to break the record. Please join us for lots of fun, music, and a host of prizes over the course of the day. The eyes of the Irish golfing community will be on Faithlegg with TV cameras and photographers set to generate significant media coverage both locally and nationally. Visit http://www.thefirstteeireland.org for more information or contact the Pro Shop at Faithlegg on 051 380587. Entry Fees are €30 for an adult and €15 for juniors. |
